A story in the October 15 issue of The Chase might have been confusing to readers.
The article, “Which organizations get your $1.6 million in student fees?” detailed the process that student organizations go through to receive student bills money. However, the accompanying chart detailed money departments were given through student fees money, and the process for both is different.
While both student fees and student bills are under the direction of Associated Students of Eastern New Mexico University, there is a different process to receive funds for each. One major difference is that the student fees board—the board that disperses funds to departments—does not consist exclusively of Student Senate members.
ASENMU received $25,099 in 2013-2014 to disperse to student organizations through the Senate bills process. (To the right is a list of student organizations at Eastern New Mexico University.) Senate bills money also is available to individual students; however, the money goes to student organizations 99 percent of the time, according to Draco Miller, director of Student Activities.
Student organizations can submit proposals continuously to ASENMU to receive Senate bills money.
Departments, which have a university budget, go before the Student Senate for student fees in February.
