Brittany Gardner is from Portales, N.M., but the town has not always been her home.
She was born in Michigan, moved to California for 10 years, and then moved overseas to Germany for three years before coming back to New Mexico.
Gardner is a senior studying Business Administration.
After graduation, she hopes to be a manager for a hunting lodge.
Starting with an internship with Vermejo Park near Raton, N.M., is where Gardner would like to put her foot in the door.
“I am an outdoor person, so that environment would suit me,” Gardner said.
As a manager, she could make visits more comfortable and memorable for her customers.
Gardner was inducted into Delta Mu Delta for the College of Business last semester. The society’s motto is “Through Knowledge, Power.”
She also has worked on campus for intramurals the past four years. Intramurals hosts various sports such as flag football, dodgeball, volleyball, and softball.
“My favorite part of school is learning to overcome my tendency to be shy and introverted,” Gardner said.
Growing into your own self is a major part of coming to college, according to Gardner.
Gardner one day would like to be a foster parent so she can help give older children a better life and the opportunity to explore possibilities that they might not get otherwise.
She also is interested in helping rescue animals.
Given the chance to live overseas, Gardner’s first pick would be Ireland. To her, it is exotic yet familiar. People speak English, so she would still be able to get around and would not feel completely out of place.
Drawing is one of her main pastimes.
“It eases my mind after a long day,” Gardner said.
She does not draw anything in particular, just what comes to her mind at the time.
She also spends time working out at the gym.
