Gov. Martinez speaks at ENMU

New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez said Friday at Eastern New Mexico University that she wants to expand the Nurse Educator Loan-for-Service Program and streamline nursing curriculums across the state.

The Nurse Educator Loan-for-Service program provides financial assistance to nursing educators seeking higher degrees. Martinez wants to expand the program to include nursing professionals in New Mexico who want to continue professional development by earning a higher degree.

Martinez also pushed for a common nursing curriculum across New Mexico universities. Such a curriculum would make it easier for students who transfer to stay on track with their degrees.

Martinez presented for a press conference on the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium, a collaborative of nursing programs across New Mexico that seeks to increase the number of nurses with bachelor of science in nursing and graduate degrees; improve efficiency, quality, and educational outcomes of nursing education through cooperation among community colleges and universities; and increase workforce diversity by improving nursing education for minorities, particularly in rural areas.
