I give thanks every day I get enough to eat
A place to lay my head, a prayer I am proud to repeat.
I thank God every day for my family and friends
And pray for their safety when every day ends.
But for this Thanksgiving when I bow my head
I will thank the Lord for my country instead
A place where I can chose how I pray
Where heroes come to the rescue when we have a bad day
Paramedics and policemen come when something is wrong
And a soldier stands watching proud and strong
I am thankful for the ability to choose where I live
A job to provide, for this thanks I give.
But most of all I will thank God for sending Jesus to die
And for loving me before I was a gleam in momma’s eye
Thank you dear Lord for lighting my way
When I am discouraged and blue at the end of the day
I may not have money or all the things I think I need
But I have in my heart your love indeed.
