Police chief Tom Jackson of Ferguson, MO has issued a video apology to the parents of slain teenager Michael Brown, who was shot by officer Darren Wilson on August 9th. In the video Jackson, clearly reading from a script, says, “No one who has not experienced the loss of a child can understand what you are feeling… I am truly sorry for the loss of your son.” Jackson goes on to address those who gathered to “protest peacefully” over the past month in Ferguson, apologizing for the upset caused by police action in the wake of Brown’s death.
Protesters have vowed to continue on a path of civil unrest with the ultimate goal of arresting and charging Officer Wilson for the killing of Michael Brown. Many members of the Ferguson community have called for Chief Jackson to be fired as a result of his handling of ongoing community tensions.
