While Valentine’s Day is typically associated with love, many people have differing opinions about what this special day represents/means.
Christina Garcia (Portales community member)
“This is a special holiday to myself. It’s not about spending money or who can give and get the best gift. It’s about spending time with the one you love and expressing that.” Garcia spends the holiday with her husband by waking up, making breakfast, and dinner and just spending time with her husband.
Sean McLaughlin (ENMU freshman)
“I believe that Valentine’s Day provides a perfect situation to go above and beyond for a significant other. I think that the commercialization of Valentines Day is not a problem, and that it’s add to the traditions of the holiday.”
Aj Aleman (ENMU sophomore)
“I’m in the middle ground of the holiday. It’s nice to be able to show your love, by why is it on the particular day people go crazy. You and your partner should show love to one another every day.”
Although opinions may differ on this holiday, and how it should be spent. The overall assumption on Valentine’s Day is that it should all be about loved ones. Love is at the core of the special day; no matter how you spend it, know someone loves you.
