The Roosevelt General Hospital Foundation is hosting its fifth annual Skeet Shoot Fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 8 a.m. at Indsinga Dairy in Portales. Jeanette Orrantia, RGH Director of Marketing, Planning and Public Relations, said the Skeet Shoot competition is to benefit RGH. The funds generated from the event are used to “add value for [their patients],” she said. The event allows the local hospital to purchase items and equipment that may have not been included in their budget but are necessary to improve the patient experience.

“The Foundation has been able to purchase TVs for the waiting areas, as well as reclining chairs for the patient rooms,” Orrantia said. She added that other projects include new flooring in patient rooms, dietary equipment and updating the Behavioral Health patient rooms to be less
clinical and more comfortable.

Skeet shooting is a recreational activity where competitors use shotguns to break clay targets. There are several categories of competitors, including youth, women, mixed adults and teams. Prizes are awarded to first place winners. There will also be raffle prizes at the event. Orrantia said last year’s event brought in just over $10,000, and that this year the goal is
$12,000.

“Last year was my first year in the planning of the fundraising event, and it was great to meet new people and watch how excited they were about the Skeet Shoot,” said Orrantia. “It brings out some good competition while helping our community hospital.” Entry fees range from $35-
$175, and during registration, anyone under 18 must present a hunter safety card.

The event is community-wide. Participants can register in advance by contacting Orrantia at
