The DIP of Life

By Katrina Weir

Devotional:

You know the big yellow road sign that says “DIP”? Warning drivers about an upcoming dip in the road, there are a couple of these road signs located around Portales and Clovis. Today, I was talking with a friend and she shared something with me that reminded me of the big yellow sign and got me thinking about my life. I define DIP as Discouragement, Issues, and Problems; all of us have faced these moments or are currently battling them. Unfortunately, when we are facing a DIP in our lives it’s so hard to think about the positive things: something good will happen, I am learning something, and I need to trust or give God total access of my life.

Today, I want to talk about discouragement, adversities, and problems we face because I believe it is the way the enemy distracts us from enjoying the journey we are on. Many times, there is no warning: a DIP can creep up on us and be a joy stealer. When we are faced with certain circumstances, we may not be able to stop them from happening, but we can decide how we will handle them. A DIP can be a reminder to slow down, think it through, make a change or rethink our situation. We must make the choice: do we stay in the DIP or do we get through it?

When I am faced with a DIP, I have learned that my perspective is important. I must lean on God’s word to get me through these moments. Instead of focusing on discouragements, adversities, or problems on our own, tackle them as a “DIP” in the road by facing it head on and keep moving. Know that something good is going to happen and surround yourself with people that will be there for you in times that are good and bad.

This week when you are faced with a DIP turn that discouragement into encouragement, your adversities into advantageousness and problems into prayer.

Be not afraid or dismayed at this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:15 (AMP)
