The Counseling and Career Services Facebook page went live on Wednesday, September 2 with representatives from the campus program Safe Ride.
The ENMU Safe Ride program on campus is completely free and confidential for all ENMU students. The mission for the program is to help students safely arrive home if they happen to be under the influence or involved in an unsafe situation.
The Facebook live was informative for students to learn about the hazards of drinking and driving as well as ways to drink more responsibly. Safe Ride representatives talked about how to identify signs of alcohol poisoning as well as effective methods to prevent that issue from happening.
Signs of alcohol poisoning to look out for include pail skin, slow or irregular beathing, slurred speech, confusion, excessive vomiting, and being unresponsive. A few ways to prevent alcohol poisoning include drinking water in between alcohol drinks or eating something to help absorb the alcohol. Safe Ride services can be contacted continually throughout the semester from Thursdays at 8 a.m. to Sunday’s at midnight. The service will not give out your personal information. Safe Ride representatives noted that if a student uses the service no information of the student will be released unless there is a medical emergency to do so. The only thing that Safe Ride will require is a student ID number, which will be used for recording how many people utilized the service.
If a student uses the Safe Ride services during the fall 2020 semester, the student will be required to wear a face covering along with a temperature check prior to entering the Safe Ride van. This is to ensure everyone’s wellbeing.
To avoid drinking and driving in the Portales area, utilize the Safe Ride services by calling (575)-607-9995 or (575)-607-5999. For more information about Safe Ride and what they had to say about drinking and driving check out the video posted on the Counseling and Career Services Facebook page.
