Recently, it seems that people are obsessed with collecting indoor plants. It has almost become a competition between peers on who can collect the most indoor plants. This all sounds like a trend, but this can be a great thing!
Most indoor plants consist of being succulents and/or cactuses. There are many benefits to having either of the two indoor plants, however it is also important to know how to properly take care of them. This is because of the unfortunate multitude of indoor plants that are killed every year because of two different reasons. The first reason is that these plants are being overwatered and the second is that they are being neglected. Neither being overly attentive or under zealous with the plants is the correct way to go.
Firstly, some of the benefits of indoor plants are extraordinary as they have been scientifically proven to eliminate air pollutants within the household. They do this by absorbing and then filtering out the harmful particles in the air. The plants have the ability use photosynthesis to soak in the carbon dioxide while filtering out some purified air, which of course is natural. However, it should be noted that although house plants can clear some of the toxins out of the air, it would take a massive amount of house plants to fully cleanse a room.
Yes, of course indoor plants can be used as decorative pieces. It is one of their many purposes, but why should that be the limit when they can be beneficial for so much more.
Did you know that house plants can be used to boost moods, productivity, help with concentration, and creativity while also reducing stress? The possibilities are endless!
Indoor plants can help incorporate happiness into one’s life since plants are beautiful and can change the perspective of an individual’s mind, as well as the room in which the plant is placed. Plants also lift the spirits of an individual, since plants can be used to bring an encouraging outlook and inspire people into feeling more alive.
A study at Washington State University researched how people completed a simple task on a computer in two different settings. In one setting there were no interior plants and in the other there were plants placed throughout the room. The study showed that people in a work environment with plants had a 12 precent greater increase rate in productivity compared to those who performed the computer task within the non-plant room. This study also showed that the people who were in the environment with plants felt 10 precent more perceptive and alert than those who were not around plants while completing the task.
Another benefit of indoor plants is that they can increase the creativity of an individual. Indoor plants do this by enhancing the curiosity of the individual’s mind by allowing the mind to explore and recharge. Some researchers have even theorized that plants support creative thinking because of the color, green. Science suggests that the color signals growth to individuals making them feel happy and motivated.
Lastly, when shopping for indoor plants it is important to understand the plant’s needs. For example, some plants require great quantities of light while other might favor a more shaded spot within the household. Certain plants desire to be watered more frequently while others can go about a month or so before having to be watered again. Make sure to take the time to get to know your new interior plant and be aware of the simple necessities that a plant will need.
Happy plants make for a happy environment!
