Working in the area I do, I recruit a lot of new managers it seems like monthly, and I see how so many sell themselves and then when they start working, they are not at all who they said they were. So, I say to myself, You want to be a leader and you talk about integrity, yet you have none. How does a person sit down and write up this fabulous resume, almost lying about themselves, then get paid an insane amount of money and do absolutely no work? I see it all too often: You have others do your work and you take all the credit. This, ladies and gentlemen, is having zero integrity.
I feel like people don’t see taking advantage of others or lying as being a bad person anymore; now, its acceptable and almost favored. I work hard for my money, and I help so many that make so much more than me ,and it is utterly disgusting how the world is today. I hope to one day be able to look back and not be so bitter about it or hurt by how people who run businesses think it’s ok to do this or are just blind to it. I sincerely do not see how such people sleep at night, knowing they do not know a lick about their job and when they get their insane-amount paycheck how they don’t think, Surely this will catch up to me, surely someone will see I don’t know how to do my job. One day maybe; if not we will just continue the way it has been since COVID.
Don’t get me wrong on any of this; I am grateful for my job but saddened by the fact that I see so many people taking advantage of a situation and being so dishonest. I recall when I was young, my brother told me, “I am going to apply for a surgeon job. Do you think they will know I am not one?” I bet he could get away with it now. I feel companies don’t really care if you have the degree, diploma, certificate, or even the experience; they just want someone they can say works. They are not there to see if you do, but, hey, they hired someone and that is all that matters. I would think that it is your duty as a leader to be truthful and want to strive to be great at your job, but I’m sad to say most of the leaders I have seen lately do not care either way; they are just there to make their paycheck.
For a company that strives to show their employees that we are firm in our beliefs of having integrity, we have hired many that have none. I can only hope to see this situation improve, and for people to learn and make better choices. I cannot say it’s the younger generation because I tend to see it more in the older one. What exactly are we teaching out youth if we cannot be better ourselves? I hope and pray that future leaders can be more honest and learn from our mistakes on what integrity really is.
