Michael Baty, a freshman from Albuquerque, came to Eastern New Mexico University to major in Music Education and minor in Music Technology and Composition.

Baty enjoys spending his free time in the gym playing basketball or at the Music Building, where he is a member of the ENMU band.

Chase: What is your favorite thing about ENMU?

Baty: It would have to be the personalization of the teachers, as far as one-on-one time with the students, especially in my major. We learn a lot more compared to other universities, who have the same major. So that is a really important thing when it comes to learning music.

Chase: What do you like to do for fun?

Baty: Chill, play basketball, make music with my friends. I like to play the drums, the saxophone, and I like to sing. There is not just one thing that I like to do. I like to do whatever is fun at the time.

Chase: How long have you played music for your church?

Baty: I started playing for the church when I was 4. I started playing the drums for choirs back home. Then, as I got older, I started playing in other churches with my dad when he would go play at other churches. Then I eventually started to play the saxophone a little bit. I would also play at different conferences in high school. So I basically have been playing my whole life. I started out as kid, and now I play as a college student.

Chase: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities here at ENMU?

Baty: Right now, I currently am not. I have been pretty busy right now, but hopefully next semester, I plan on trying to be a President’s Ambassador and hopefully an RA at Guadalupe Hall. As far as anything that is not music, nothing really this semester. Pretty much everything that I have done this semester has been musically oriented, which is perfectly fine because that is what I love to do.
