Sodexo’s Food Inspection

All six of Sodexo’s permitted establishments at Eastern New Mexico University received a passing score on food inspection and risk assessment reports during the Fall 2013 semester.

The permitted establishments include all cafeteria, catering, and coffee shop locations around campus that serve food products to the students or the public. Food establishment inspections are administered through New Mexico Environment Department. All reports are divided into three categories: high-, moderate-, and low-risk violations.

Sodexo has not received the regular yearly inspection for 2014.

“There are occasional concerns, but it’s the nature of our business,” said Wayne Doney, Sodexo general manager. “We address all our submitted comment cards. Customer safety and satisfaction is always the most important.”

Ground Zero and Sodexo Catering had no violations in any category, according to New Mexico Environment Department inspection records.

Records also show that Scholar’s Corner received two separate inspections during 2013. The first report recorded one moderate-risk violation due to lack of testing equipment for sanitization levels in buckets. The second inspection showed no violations.

The Jack Williamson Liberal Arts building and Sodexo’s World of Wings each received a single violation. World of Wings received one violation in regards to cleaning and sanitization of unspecified non-food surfaces, a moderate-risk violation. J.W.L.A.’s only violation was for failure to regularly clean the ceiling.

ENMU’s Upper Level, located on the first floor of the Campus Union Building, received a total of four violations, according to inspection records. Of the four, two were of moderate risk—including cleaning and sanitization violations for unspecified food and non-food surfaces. The final two were low-risk violations specific to cleaning the ceiling and floors underneath and around equipment.

Sodexo also participates in a second health and safety inspection through the National Science Foundation, Doley said.

“We received a 98.5 percent in the food safety category, and a 100 percent on physical safety,” he said.

Doney said that bringing in “fresh eyes” allows for outside opinion on how Sodexo can better its business.
