It’s the beginning of the spring semester and anticipation is fresh in the air, with the winter break fresh in student’s minds.
Chelle Enders, a junior theatre major, spent her winter break between Kansas City with her husbands’ family and her own in California. She says that she’s optimistic about her full course load but worried about a possible relocation.
“I was very excited about my courses for the semester, until there became a potential for us to leave the area due to my husband’s job. Now I’m a little anxious about how everything will play out this semester.” Enders said.
While Enders is close with her advisor, she was not aware about the extent of the support services on campus.
“I mainly know that there are disability support services for people with learning disabilities. I think I would be willing to go speak with [tutors] to see if I can get a little extra help this semester.”
Newlywed Brandon Vela says that despite a heavy course load, he’s excited about the semester, especially with his wife by his side.
“My winter break was great; it started off with the wedding of my dreams to my beautiful wife.”
Vela is a senior double majoring in criminal justice and sociology. His game plan for the semester is to get a head start on work now.
“I’m most worried about my science credit, because I am not that great with science classes. If I get ahead now, when the really difficult classes hit, I’ll be ready and be able to take my time,” he stated.
Jonathan Soto, a junior physical education major with a minor in history, was able to use winter break to catch up on some vital rest, which will come in handy for the semester.
“I have a heavy course load, so I’ll be spending my free time in the library.” Soto said. “I’m most worried about my Olympic strength training class because I’m not the strongest man in the world.”
Deanna Maestas, a senior long-distance psychology major who lives in Roswell, says that despite wanting to take more classes, she chose against it.
“My course load is in the middle. I wanted to make sure I understood the classes I’m taking now because they are pretty important.” Maestas said. “My plan for this semester is to start the assignments as soon as they’re available. I want to ensure I am understanding the information from class and not just rushing through and skimming chapters.”
Maestas says that she knows the support services well due to past experience.
“I do know about the programs on campus. I do not intend to use them however I would be interested to check them out, because I was a tutor for SSS Trio for ENMU-Roswell. It’s a pretty awesome program.”
ENMU’s classes run from Jan 13 to May 8. The last day of the add/drop period is Jan 20, and the last day to withdraw from classes is April 10. Spring commencement will be held on May 9.
