Looking around Eastern New Mexico University’s campus, one always wonders what professors and instructors are like outside of the classroom. One of the best ways to find out is to see what professors and instructors chose to display in their offices.

Opal Greer by Geo In this issue, we will take a look into Opal Greer’s office. Greer is an instructor of English Language and Literature at ENMU, and she also is ENMU’s writing program director.

Greer’s office is located in the Bernalillo Hall.

Bernalillo is the temporary office housing for professors whose offices were in the Jack Williamson Liberal Arts building, which is under reconstruction till Spring 2015.

“I haven’t really done a lot of decorating just because we’re not going to be here for very long,” Greer said.

One piece of decoration is a poster from the movie Thor.

“It’s kind of fun, kind of fits a little of my personality,” Greer said. “Plus [it] is a little intimidating. A giant Thor staring at you—that could be useful.”

To the left of the Thor poster is a promotional poster of The Lord of The Rings. On her bookshelf, Greer also has a necktie featuring the Star Trek character Spock. A figurine of the Lord of the Rings character Gollum sits on top of the bookcase.

“I’m a little bit of a nerd,” Greer says, laughing. “Nerdy stuff in here.”

In addition to the Thor and Lord of the Rings posters, Greer hung a poster of the Irish folk revival band Gaelic Storm.

“They actually played some music on Titanic,” Greer said. “They are really good; they’re really great.”
